Empowering young Australians to be a clear Christian voice

Will gay marriage help the economy?

Will legalising gay marriage really boost Australia’s economy by $1 billion and line the pockets of celebrants, florists, marriage venues, cake decorators, limo hirers and dressmakers?

That is not what has happened in Spain, which has seen an overall reduction in marriage rates.

In 2006, there were 4,574 gay marriages, later declining to around 3500.

Here’s the shocker.

Heterosexual marriages, which were increasing before 2005 (201,579 in 2001; 216,149 in 2004) have plummeted!  In 2011 there were only 159, 205 opposite-sex marriages in Spain.

There has been an overall reduction in marriage by 23% each year since 2005

Strong families contribute to a strong economy. Redefining marriage does not.

Why is marriage worth defending? Take a look.
