Iceland considers blocking web porn

Iceland is considering blocking all internet porn after considering its damaging effects, especially on children.

The Icelandic government is working on legal measures to try and stop the flood of graphic sexual material reaching the island’s shores.

Methods under consideration include blocking porn IP addresses and making it illegal to use Icelandic credit cards to access x-rated sites (The Daily Mail, 13/2/13).

A law forbidding the printing and distribution of porn has long been in place there – but it has yet to be updated to cover the internet.

In the UK, there is also a growing campaign for an automatic block on online pornography that means customers must opt in for access.

When is Australia going to follow suit in introducing mandatory ISP filtering?
