Empowering young Australians to be a clear Christian voice

Rise in school sexual incidents

The 60 per cent rise in SA school “serious incidents of a sexual nature” (The Advertiser, 26/3/13) should be a wake-up call to all governments, and the federal government in particular.

This is not just a South Australian problem – it is in other states too.  As Professor Freda Briggs points out, exposure to so much pornography in our highly sexualised society is a key cause.

Parents say they have filters on their home computers, but they cannot protect their children from pornography on unfiltered mobile phones that other children take delight in passing around. There is instant access to hardcore material, where women are treated as objects to be sexually abused in the most demeaning ways.

Julia Gillard was hailed not so long ago for her feisty speech against misogyny.  Whatever happened to her government’s promise to block hardcore internet porn?

Parents, do you have a filtering service at home? If not, please check out http://www.webshield.net.au/.
