Increasingly, gayness is being turned from a lifestyle that everyone should, of course, be tolerant of into a superior way of being, a lifestyle far wiser and more interesting than other drab, straitlaced existences.

This is increasingly the case in the political sphere too. Consider the way in which an issue such as gay marriage has become a cultural signifier, a marker of moral decency, with those who support it considered good and those who criticise it considered bad.
